The work was done in the hobo-nickel technique on the obverse of the 1977 U.S. dime. A pneumatic tool and a set of hand engravers were used for engraving. The process of creating the bas-relief took a month of manual labor. Subsequently, the coin was nickel plated to give it an aesthetic appearance.
